CCC & CA State Parks Create Cooperative Trails Program

California Conservation Corps, Atascadero man has new shoes to fill in State Parks By David Sneed, San Luis Obispo Tribune Bruce Bonifas, right, of Atascadero works on a boardwalk at an elephant seal viewing area near San Simeon. Atascadero resident Bruce Bonifas has been named the first statewide trail coordinator for the California Conservation Corps. He will lead a new cooperative trail-building program between the corps and the state Department of Parks and Recreation. The goal of the program is to build high-quality trails in state parks and improve training for corps members. "State Parks has a huge backlog of trail projects they are mandated to do," Bonifas said. "State Parks want to use the (corps) as a major labor force." Half of his job will be to travel to parks throughout the state. He has begun by coordinating trail-building efforts at Saddleback Butte State Park near Lancaster. ...

Trails Council delivers Mombo’s Pizza to CCC Trail Workers

Thanks to donations from State Parks and The Trails Council, the CCC crew at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park enjoyed fresh hot pizza from Mombo's. The crew, led by trail expert Mike Nelson has reconstructed the Goodspeed trail, which was suffering from severe erosion. Thanks you CCC's and keep up the good work!

Hello Trail Enthusiasts, It is Monday, December 3rd and we have just finished updating the SCTC web site to include some really cool features. Our new blog will keep you current with important issues within the trails community such as news and project information.  Check back here regularly to find out what is happening with your local trails. We will be posting trail reports and past newsletters in easy-to-access PDF documents as they become available.  You can monitor the reports section to find out about the great things we've been working on in our area. We will continute working with local photographers and web site developers to compile our interactive trail and park map which will feature suggested trails, park information, elevation profiles, and information about trail work days.
