Atascadero resident Bruce Bonifas has been named the first statewide trail coordinator for the California Conservation Corps. He will lead a new cooperative trail-building program between the corps and the state Department of Parks and Recreation. The goal of the program is to build high-quality trails in state parks and improve training for corps members. "State Parks has a huge backlog of trail projects they are mandated to do," Bonifas said. "State Parks want to use the (corps) as a major labor force." Half of his job will be to travel to parks throughout the state. He has begun by coordinating trail-building efforts at Saddleback Butte State Park near Lancaster. ...
